How It Works
The discs are gel-filled cushions that act as shock absorbers between the vertebrae of your spine. When those discs become compressed, whether through injury, degeneration or simply the effects of gravity, the fluid can bulge out, pressing on nearby nerves. This is typically what causes the pain you feel with disc problems.
With decompression therapy, we seek to reverse that compression and take the pressure off the discs and nerves. You’ll lie on a special computerized table, and our chiropractic assistant will explain what to expect: the table will be programmed to apply gentle stretches to your spine, and these stretches will alternate with rest periods over the course of your session.
The stretches create more space in your spine, removing the pressure on the discs. This action helps rehydrate the discs and allows them to move into their proper position. Although many people experience noticeable relief after one or two sessions, it typically takes a series of sessions to achieve maximum results.
We’re With You
You’ll generally receive your chiropractic adjustment first, and then move on to the decompression table. Our chiropractic assistant will be with you throughout your session, and you are always in control of the process. We begin with gentle stretches and only increase the level of pull when (and if) you’re ready to do so. This therapy should always be comfortable, and we’ll make sure you’re feeling good throughout.
